Beyond Worship:  “He Chose the Nails” – Max Lucado

The Beyond Worship service at Spencer is on the Max Lucado dvd series “He Chose the Nails.”  In this five-session video Bible study, Max Lucado explores the many gifts that Christ provided to us at his crucifixion. The hill of the cross is rich with the gifts of God’s grace. These were gifts he didn’t have to give. The only required act for our salvation was the shedding of blood, yet God did so much more. So, as we unwrap these gifts, we need to pause and listen for his voice. As we do, perhaps we will hear him whisper, “I did it just for you.”  Join us Thursdays for a light supper at 6:15pm and a casual service following at 7pm.

Holy Thursday Service, April 18th

There will be a foot-washing and Communion service at Spencer UMC at 7 pm, (in lieu of the regular Beyond Service) commemorating the night when Jesus gave himself up for us all. This is a moving service that you don’t want to miss.

Good Friday Service, April 19th, 12:00 Noon, Carnegie UMC

A short service of meditations on the Cross with sung responses. The service will be around a half-hour long and will end in silence. Recommended for seniors and others who don’t want to be out at night.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service, April 19th 7:30 pm at Spencer Church

A Baked Fish Dinner will be served at 6 pm. (Good Will Offering) RSVP to Karen Lenigan at 412-884-3214 by April 15 (for count only). A service of Scripture lessons, music, candles and darkness at 7:30 pm.

Mid-Week Ecumenical Services and Luncheons

Carnegie UMC is participating in community Lenten services this year at St. John Lutheran Church (601 Washington Ave, Carnegie PA 15106). Worship begins on Wednesdays at noon, with a luncheon following the service at 12:30. All are welcome to attend.

Easter Sunday Services

The Men of Fairhaven UMC will be cooking and serving pancakes before the Easter worship service at 9:30 am on April 21. Eating begins at 8:30 am.

Mid-Week Ecumenical Luncheon and Worship

Join with the churches of the Castle Shannon community for Lenten worship and a fellowship meal.

Worship begins at noon in the sanctuary of Emmanuel Lutheran Church (935 Pine Avenue).

The pastors of the churches lead us in worship. Immediately following, we move to the fellowship hall for a light lunch, hosted by the various congregations.

Cost: $4 donation to the local community food bank.

We hope you will remain for the study, “Final Words from the Cross”, led by Matt Price, beginning at 1:00 pm.

This year’s theme is God’s mercy, as seen in many of the parables of Jesus.
