      9:00 am: Tours of the building

      10:15 am: Rehearsal for anyone wanting to be a part of a choir for that day, under the direction of Peg Bowman and Bill Davidson (musician at Carnegie and Crafton UMCs)

      11:00 am: Praise, worship and thanksgiving

      A light luncheon to follow

      The people of the churches of the South Hills Partnership will be coming together on Nov. 22 in support of and celebration with Hill Top UMC. This will be the only service across the Partnership on that day as we gather to give thanks for all God’s blessings. The annual Thanksgiving service is being combined with the morning service. You are invited to help fill the chancel with non-perishables for the local food bank that serves Allentown and the surrounding neighborhoods.

      Parking: There will be parking across the street at Barry Funeral Home; at the city lot a block away (no need to pay on that Sunday) and on the surface streets. Please make every effort to carpool.

      RSVP: The first of November there will be signup sheets available at each church. This will assist Hill Top in their planning.

    • Bible Reading Marathon at Hill Top United Methodist Church

      GET READY FOR A BIBLE READING MARATHON AT HILL TOP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH!

      The Grand Re-Opening for Hill Top UMC is coming right up on Sunday, November 22nd at 11:00 am! That’s why we’re inviting members and friends of the churches of the South Hills Partnership to help us welcome the congregation back to its building in style by joining together in a Bible-reading marathon in the newly-renovated Hill Top sanctuary! 

      That’s right, our plan is to read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation out loud at the pulpit, in shifts, beginning Sunday, November 15th, and ending during worship on the 22nd. Sounds ambitious, right? That’s why we need you! Each day of the week there will be shifts of roughly 25-30 minutes available for folks to sign up and take turns reading. Shifts will go from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm every day that week. We’re asking you prayerfully to consider signing up for a reading shift (or two or three!) throughout the week as a way of blessing the new sanctuary and welcoming the Spirit’s presence into the new building through the public reading of God’s Word! After all, “unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1).   

      Sign-ups for the Bible reading will be at the Hill Top and Castle Shannon churches on Oct. 25th, and at Fairhaven, Spencer, Carnegie and Crafton the following Sundays.

    • BILL DAVIDSON’S UPCOMING RECITALS

      BILL DAVIDSON, ORGANIST/PIANIST FOR CRAFTON AND CARNEGIE and 2015 Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artists’ Competition winner, has two major recitals coming up.

      The first is Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 PM and is part of his required coursework for his master’s degree at CMU. It will feature piano concertos by Bach and Brahms. This concert is free. 

      The second is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Concert Society for its’ competition winners, features music of Chopin, Bach, and Debussy, and will be Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 PM. Tickets for the second concert are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for children. 

      Both concerts will be at the Kresge Theatre in the Fine Arts Building at Carnegie Mellon University.  

      Peg is planning on attending the first (sadly can’t make the second but hopes some folks can) and will be at Carnegie’s parking lot at 1:30 on Oct 25 if anyone would like to car pool/caravan.  Come on out and cheer Bill on!

      We will be celebrating All Saints’ Sunday by reading the names of the honored dead whose lives were important to us. 

      If you have a name or names of persons who have died since November 2014 that you would like to be included in the bulletin and read during the service, please complete the information below. 

      Feel free to include all family members and friends who died during this time.  During worship, you will have the opportunity to bring a carnation to the altar in memory of each person.  The carnations will be provided by Fairhaven.

      Please submit the names to Flo Black by October 25.  If you can’t make it Fairhaven on Sunday, 10/25, please call Flo at 412-819-0150 with the information.
